Trimble Secures Place in Semi-Finals at AON NZ Junior Open

In the Girls Open Division the top four seeds have progressed through to the semi-finals whilst in the Boys Open the only upset came from Finn Trimble who secured his place in the semi-finals after a win against Matthew Lucente.

The Girls Open proved to be relatively straight forward for the top 4 seeds. Abbie Palmer, Anika Jackson and Kaitlyn Watts all taking out their opponents in 3. Anna Hughes had a tough first game against Courtney Trail but she pulled it back to take the match in four. These four girls will now face each other later tonight for a spot in the finals.

In the Boys Open Jamie Oakley, Alex Oswald and Scott Galloway all took out their opponents in 3 games. The only upset of the quarter finals came when 5/8 seed Finn Trimble took out 3/4 seed Matthew Lucente. Trimble played controlled and structured rallies throughout the whole match, using his height to pick up some remarkable balls. Trimble forced the errors from Lucente throughout the first and second games, but it was Lucente who managed to put Trimble under pressure in the third to claim the game. Trimble got back into his stride in the fourth and never looked back closing out the match.

The Semi Finals for the Boys Open begin at 6pm whilst the Girls Open are on at 5pm. Full results can be found below and all other results can be found on iSquash.
